Before The Clean

Before The Clean

Whether you’ve decided to spend more time with family, or just flat out hate cleaning, whatever your reason for hiring a house cleaner, there are a few things that you need to do before the clean to prepare your home for the cleaning service.

Here are a few things to do before the cleaners arrive:

  1. Tidy Up
A cleaning service typically comes to clean the home, not de-clutter the home. For the best cleaning results, it’s best to have surfaces clear and unobstructed. If you decide not to de-clutter, be sure to address that you discuss that with your cleaning service provider. They will need to know that the clean will take extra time, which will mean added expense.
  2. Be Ready
Cleaning teams generally have a tight schedule. To be fair, it’s best to be prepared for them when they arrive. It’s unfair to try to tidy up while the team is in your home cleaning.
  3. Secure Valuables
Though any reputable cleaning service should be bonded and have a thorough screening process for their employees, it’s always a good idea to put valuables like jewellery, cash, important documents and other items away for safe keeping.
  4. Put Pets Away
Even if your animals are not bothered by strangers in the home, it’s best to remove them from the home during a clean, or at least put them in a yard, a crate, or designate a room for them. Pets can unintentionally get in the way, or mess up areas that have just been cleaned.
  5. Identify Any Existing Damage
From time to time, cleaning teams may accidentally damage something in your home. A reputable company will always notify you when they do, and work with you to repair or replace the damaged item. Sometimes however, the damage in your home may be pre-existing. To avoid misplacing blame, be sure you are aware of items in your home that are already damaged and even note it to your cleaning service before their arrival.
  6. Communicate
The best way to get the desired results from any cleaning service is to identify expectations before the clean. Most services will give you a detailed quote or summary of what you can expect from them. If they don’t, be sure to ask for it before the team comes. If you want a specific area of your home to get special attention, simply tell your cleaning service.
